| After
getting his Ph.D. degree in Sociology in 1985 at the
age of 29 from the University of Poona, India he worked
for more than two decades with different national
and international agencies like CIDA, DANIDA, World
Bank, USAID, ADB, NORAD, CARE, Concern, BIDS etc.
on rural development, rural poverty alleviation program,
community participatory rural development programs,
gender-inclusive development programs, social assessment,
resettlement, good governance, HIV/AIDS and infrastructure
development program. He is a registered consultant
of Asian Development Bank (ADB). He is the founder
of BISR and founder editor of Bangladesh Sociological
Studies.
He worked as Senior National Expert for Water
Resources Ministry, and Mission Member for
CIDA. He also worked as an expert in Bangladesh, India,
Nepal and Pakistan. Till January 2007 he worked as
Team Leader of 23 study and evaluation projects sponsored
by different national and international organizations.
He also organized and imparted training to 202
batches till January 2007, where 5452 participants
attended those courses. Participants were from the
senior and mid-level government officers, university
teachers, local government representatives and development
workers from government and non-government agencies
in addition to some international experts. He offered
courses on research methodology, PRA, people's participation,
institutional development, participatory planning
and health and family planning program management
etc.
While serving in different organizations, he could
develop some innovative ideas such as Canal Maintenance
Group (CMG), People's Participation for Rehabilitation
of the River Eroded Homeless People, Low Cost Canal
Maintenance System, and a Method of Preparation of
Needs Based Budget (NBB).
He has accomplished 9 research works and has 21 articles/review
articles (16 peer reviewed), 3 published (peer reviewed)
research reports, 8 books and 6 manuals as publication
in his credit. Among the articles in three he made
attempt to develop three theories where one is on
government and politics, one on people's
power in democracy and the last one on Muslim
social stratification. Currently he is also editing
an international journal titled "Bangladesh
Sociological Studies - An International Biannual Journal"
published by the BISR. He works as referee for some
reputed journals.
He also worked as guest speaker in several universities
and academic institutions such as Asiatic Society
of Bangladesh, University of Dhaka, Shahjalal University
of Science and Technology, BUET, Centre for Social
Studies (DU) and Centre for Advance Studies in Social
Sciences (DU). Also facilitated some national level
workshop and seminars on different occasions.
